If you are incompetent a Medical Power Of Attorney permits another individual to make medical decisions for you. After signing the document, you have the right to make your own health care decisions as long as you are competent and you have the right to revoke the document by executing a new one. This document may not be changed once signed. To make changes you must execute a new form.
This medical power of attorney can take effect when you become unable to make your own health care decisions. Powers granted by this document are broad and sweeping. They are explained in the estate code.
