An “out-of-hospital do-not-resuscitate order” is a legal document for people who wish to die without any medical intervention. You may sign a written Out-of-Hospital Order directing health care professional acting in an out-of-hospital setting to withhold cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as other life-sustaining treatments. Identification devices (bracelets and necklaces) may be worn to assist in the recognition process. A physician must sign the order and make it a part of the patient’s medical record.
